Yes, that's a pretty good way to sum up variable signifiers, and they can be trained in to a certain extent if the personality is flexible enough. In fact, Shuos and Andan are the most likely either to have them to begin with or to be able to train them in, so it would make a lot of sense for Ashari to have one.
