Westfall by Okkervil River.

ETA: Confession, I have a really long carefully curated murder ballad playlist because I love them, but this is the first one to come to mind as actually suiting Jedao. Too many of them are specifically about murdering lovers or avenging their mothers!

the least Jedao ballads

[personal profile] zuhrovet 2020-03-31 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
My vote for the least Jedao murder ballad is Katie Dear, featuring a protagonist whose logic appears to be "You can't kill me if I die first!"

Re: the best cantatas for the Cantata

This is a real challenge - I don't remember any of the names of the cantatas my church choir sang, when I was in church. (Save that one of them involved major amounts of Handel. Oh, Handel.)

Sleepers, Wake is always a good choice, though, and suitable for the newly-conscious moth.

How about Lindsey Stirling's Shadows? Instrumental and a really fun music video for a bonus.

Woah, that is a fun music video! And very fun song- maybe a bit more upbeat and energetic than I would think for Sulen, but gosh, it's gorgeous- makes me feel like I'm going on a fantasy adventure.

Pop or electronica for Reshad?

[personal profile] hoardingpearls 2020-04-09 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Because she'd probably really like it!

Other strongly rhythmic and upbeat music welcome, of course.

I definitely accept kpop! Have been meaning to listen to more of it, even. What a fun song. xD

It is definitely not summer here, so I'll take the summery sound!

Maybe Indila's Run run run? (Though in fairness, I like it for Reshad partly because the lyrics are much less upbeat than the music: "Prêt à sacrifier tout pour ton job" indeed!)

Ooh, interesting one! I don't have any French, but fortunately someone had translated the lyrics and put them where they could be found.

I enjoyed this, thanks.

Well, gosh, if we want upbeat pop with surprisingly grim lyrics, there's always:

Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men

Maybe she'd also like:

San Francisco - The Mowglis

How about the Paul Oakenfold mix of Delirium's Silence?. The lyrics might be appropriate too.

Woodkid!

especially Iron ("A soldier on my own, I don't know the way") and The Other Side ("And in the arms of endless anger / Will end the story of a soldier in the dark")

So Dar has lots and lots of memories, because she's lived a while.

She also hasn't told anybody much about those memories.

Have at it.

Peter Gabriel's "I Grieve" might be fitting. Not just for the tie to sad memories, but also because the tune changes towards the end and becomes more...I'm not sure I'd quite say upbeat, but nevertheless suits the 'life goes on' thread of the lyrics. Which seems suited to Dar.

Fusion Music for Xiulan

[personal profile] stormglass 2020-04-11 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
If you've read any of the Expanse books, they talk about Belter music as a fusion of many different influences from earth, matching the cultural fusion of the Belters themselves. I was thinking a style like that would be popular in clubs and such in Xiulan's timeline. Anyone have any suggestions for music that might fit that description?

Yay, more francophone pop!

I have a theory that Moroccan pop would be right for this description, but I haven't found anything that's a really great lyrical match yet.
