This is what happens when you optimize for the interesting choice!

I'm reminded of the Heretical Geese one-shot I ran at Gaylaxicon where a group of players, two of which were familiar with Machineries and four of which had never heard of it, were deciding what to do with their captive Jedao. (They forgot to search him for lockpicks, which I duly punished them for.) Interesting options floated included "why don't we jury-rig an exploding chip and surgically insert it into his brain to ensure his compliance." At any rate, the narrative mechanics meant that at one point the Andan diplomat's player got to choose whether or not Jedao believed their reassurances, and said player decided, "Jedao thinks we're all full of shit." I can't say that it was out of character, but it was definitely an instance of a player optimizing for interesting gameplay rather than what was easy for the party. XD
