on the nature of oaths

[In the current move, Sasha has just accepted an oath of service from Jedao, a relationship Reshad believes is coercive. I'm not sure whether this properly counts as character rp or a new half-move, but I think we all need some new space to deal with the fallout!]

Sasha is waiting outside the antechamber. She has tied her scarf again, and looks as put-together as she ever does. "Are we having this conversation in my office?" she asks Reshad. "Or over tea, with everyone?"

Ione still does not actually entirely understand jeng-zai, but Sulen taught her the basics and let's face it, she is fascinated by the cards themselves. The artwork; the possible meanings. Since things seem to be calm, it's Ione bait.

She doesn't say anything, that cultural norm of hers still clashing against the others -- just a surprise, hey, she's here in your space! -- but is leaning over the cards and looking at them curiously. And wearing a silver pseudo-dragon draped over her shoulder again.

Reshad puts her tablet face-down, softly enough not to click. The red hatchling unspools itself from her collar to trill at its silver sibling.

"Fancy a game?" she asks Ione. Or, since she seems to be studying the artwork - "This deck's a little different. There's a fox in every illustrated card, and some of the minors, too."

"I'm very bad," Ione admits immediately, aware enough of what it means that Reshad is-or-was Shuos that it's best to be upfront that games aren't in her skillset exactly. "But very curious. Do the foxes change the meanings?"

Is she looking for foxes on the cards she can see now? Absolutely. Her shoulder-decoration's return noises are a little cacophanous, as if they're mimicking the Cantata, which is possible.

"Everyone starts at the bottom," Reshad says with good cheer. She flashes a smile at the question. "Honestly, they're mostly Shuos jokes." Harmless? Hardly; this deck constitutes a heresy of its own, albeit a minor one.

Quick fingers push out a card here and there: the major arcana. A fox rolls before the Inquisitor, but when the card is inverted, it suddenly appears to be laughing. A fox watches the Spinning Coin, uneven faces reflected in its eyes. Foxes slink through roses, jam the gears, bare teeth near the Empty Hand. Eyes wink from the shadows.

"What do they play, when you're at home?"

The red hatchling starts mimicking Ione's dragonet, its squeakier voice slowly honing in on the deeper tones.
