Reference: hexarchate/heptarchate timeline

Since this campaign involves time-traveling, I thought some of you might enjoy having a basic timeline for reference--among other things, those of you with h*archate OCs can decide which time period you're from. (You don't have to decide this straight off; you can leave it open/undetermined.)

Feel free to add important dates for your own characters in comments if you like, and I can update this to include them.

Edited to add: I do have some additional dates (like major book characters' birthdates and so on) that I omitted in the interests of abbreviating this thing. If you have questions about specific things that are not on here, I'm happy to answer--just leave a comment.

NOTE: italicized events/etc. are probably not canon (e.g. player characters or AU events).

0 - Heptarchate founded.
First century - Rahal Ienora creates compromise local remembrance system so that people don't get messed up by local day-cycles vs. the high calendar.
200 +/- 50 years - Sasha Zuhrovet
361 - Wasp and its crew visits Station Moongray.
ca. 370 - Modern mothdrive and harnesses introduced; modern high calendar and remembrances introduced, likely through the influence of Nirai Kujen.
383 - Nirai Kujen enters the black cradle with Heptarch Nirai Esfarel.
832 - Shuos Jedao seconded to the Kel as a senior lieutenant.
835 - Aricura Sulen
836 - Vestar Ashari
839 - "Extracurricular Activities." Shuos Jedao prompted to tactical group commander.
841 - Shuos Jedao promoted to brigadier general in the Kel army.
852 - Battle of Candle Arc.
853 - Massacre of Hellspin Fortress.
854 - General Shuos Jedao is executed and enters the black cradle.
858 - Eshegen Virmad
944 - Liozh revolt/heresy.
952 - Heptarchate officially disbanded. Formation of the hexarchate.
970 - Lieutenant General Kel Vrae Tala loses the Fire Grasses campaign.
ca. 1000 - Augments come into common use.
1184 - Vauhan Mikodez (later Shuos Mikodez) is born.
1185 - Vauhan Istradez is born.
1202 - Nirai Kujen anchored to Nirai Mahar.
1209 - Administrator Shuos Mikodez becomes hexarch.
1211 - Hexarch Shuos Mikodez orders the assassination of two cadets at Shuos Academy Tertiary.
1221 - Nirai Faian ascends to false hexarch.
1251 - Events of Ninefox Gambit.
1252 - Events of Raven Stratagem.

The RPG in general is not canonical. Can this timeline be considered canonical?

On the other hand, new entries may not be. Would you and/or others find it helpful if I marked canon vs. non-canon in some way?

When was the Liozh conspiracy / when did the heptarchate become the hexarchate? (I feel like this may have been in the books but I can't remember, sorry...)

Liozh revolt/heresy started 944. Hexarchate officially formed and heptarchate disbanded in 952. In reality, there was a bunch of war/riots/etc. both before and after, but those are the official history book dates. I'll edit to add these.

whenabouts in the timeline are we all meeting in the first place? (and related but not strictly a timeline question: are people also being transported away from that point in the timeline into the past/future, or only to that point in the timeline from other points?)

Through portals. For example, move one takes place in 702. Rifts transport people in time and/or space, but are consistent in where/when they take you--as long as they're open. You should treat a portal going from A ---> B as separate from a portal that takes you back from B ---> A. A ---> B may be stable, B ---> may not.

Sasha is from around the year 5000 of the fourth revelation, which is about 200 in this timeline, give or take fifty years. Her facility with later technology is due to some combination of rebellion-aided study, heretical intuition, and the hexarchate's habit of paying too much attention to exotic effects and neglecting the basics.

Sulen is from 835 and Ashari is from 836.

Also, unlikely to come up unless y'all specifically go looking for him, but neither of them will have heard of Jedao. He's not promoted to brigadier general until 841 and only some Kel and some Shuos will have heard much about him at all at this point.

Welp, I'm a little confused about that myself. Other characters seem to have a single date each in the timeline. What does that one date represent?

You know, that's a good point--I'm pretty sure it represents the date when they were plucked out of their home timeline/place and joined the revolution.

This sounds right! Lately I've been assuming that Sasha was born in 201 and started formal rebellion training in 227 (about a year ago in her personal timeline).

Another thing that I wondered about: do the time rifts move people as far as location, as well as time? I'll assume not.

Let's try this as a scenario:

1164 - Hexarchate assumes full control of border planet Hartsh as part of countermeasures to handle increased Eel activity. Rebellion breaks out almost immediately. Dar and remaining members of her family become part of the rebellion.

1167 - Kel forces break the rebellion. Remaining rebels rounded up and sent to forced labor far away from their native planet (similar to Roman handling of native legionary recruits in conquered/absorbed areas).

1168 --> 949 - While laboring to improve terraforming in the backwoods of Sindol, Dar falls through a time rift and ends up in the early days of Heptarchate Sindol, when Port Honjin had just got to the point where it could really be considered a city. A biology survey team finds her on one of the as-yet unimproved continents and assume she must be a survivor from some earlier exploration effort. What with the ongoing disruption from the Liozh situation, this is less far-fetched than it might have been at other times.

953 - Dar becomes involved with malcontents/rebels (former Liozh sympathizers) on Sindol, which leads to her recruitment for the Wasp project.

You can travel through the bigger rifts to places that are far away in space as well as time, but I don't know if a ship is a prerequisite there.

Shess set out from their planet, Ylani, in 1036, and probably ended up in a more relevant/recruitable time and/or place due to encountering a rift while trying to avoid Vidona. (The Vidona were not intentionally looking for Shess, but they thought it best to avoid any possibility of attracting attention.)
