Alternatively, they could rig the life support sensors in the compartment to show that there's a dangerous overpressure. The system tries to compensate by removing atmosphere and keeps the vents open until it's a vacuum inside because the sensor readings don't change. Meanwhile the main doors all seal because of their own sensors show a pressure drop, and by the time anyone inside notices they're too hypoxic to use the manual overrides."
